The Allies land on the Mediterranean Coast
Their target : to dislodge the German from Toulon and Marseilles, into to use the ports of great capacity. Their mission achieved, the Allies will go up the Rhone valley, beating the German army back to the North. The confontrations are severe.
Decisive support of the French Resistance
The Allies are helped in their advance, by the decisive support of the French Resistance, composed of men, who, familiar to their territory, guide them. The resistance fighters sabotage roads, bridges (Livron during the night of august 16th to 17th) and railroads…harry the convoys. Using the rivers, natural obstacles, they slow the advance of the German troops down, and cause heavy losses of men and equipment.
The towns of Drome will be slowly liberated, sometimes at the cost of severe fights.

Romans, on august 30th 1944,
Saint Rambert, on august 31st 1944,

Drome will be liberated for good, on september 2nd 1944.
